The Natural World!

Now usually one of the reasons I love golf is because I get to spend time outdoors, I love being able to walk around in the beautiful countryside, taking in the tree, birds and landscape as I play. Today hasn’t been quite so much fun though, coming down the 17th, feeling good after hitting some great shots; we were saddened to find a very wounded pigeon limping towards the bunker.

On getting closer we realised that the pigeon had been shot and was in a bad state and sadly there was nothing we could do to help it. My golfing partner was very brave and put the poor bird out of its misery. The whole experience certainly took away the joy of that particular round though, left us feeling a bit shaken up.

I guess that the privileges we enjoy as golfers, of being able to spend time in the open air in wonderful surroundings, are going to occasionally be tempered by coming into contact with sad events in the natural world. I am hoping that my next round of golf will provide me with a happier experience!

An Eagle!!

Well, it’s taken a while, but I can finally say that I managed an eagle on a par 5! I was so excited, I had to run over to my golf partner and hug on the course – it was a great feeling and I still can’t quite believe it happened!!

Here’s the story … the sun was shining, it was a beautiful day, I drove off the second tee with my trusty 1 wood (a Big Bertha War Bird) – straight, strong and on the fairway; then a 6 iron to take the ball about 140 yards from the front of the green (I’m not getting on very well with my 5 wood off the fairway at the moment, hence the choice of a 6 iron); so, I’m around 140 yards out, contemplating my shot and eventually choosing an 8 iron (one of my favourite clubs) … thinking I’ll hit a great shot and land it on the green … and I did, but it didn’t just land on the green, I was well pleased as it trickled closer to the hole AND THEN it carried on trickling and disappeared into the hole!!!

I have only just started playing golf again, after a break of around 4 years (and I was very much a casual golfer who played every now and then) – as yet, I don’t have a handicap, so I’m playing off ’36′ in effect. I am really good at getting some great shots away … the joy of my eagle is that I put THREE great shots together – a big step towards some sort of consistency! My aim at this present moment in time is to get one par in every 9 holes that I play.

So, as it stands at this present moment in time – I have never had a birdie …. and now I have an EAGLE!!

Yippee!!

Ryder Cup 2010

It seems a great time to start out chatting about my new golf psychology program for women!  Today is the day I had planned to work on some of the sessions that I am creating for this program … the only problem is that today is the ‘extra’ day of the Ryder Cup 2010 … and with that on in the background, the chances of concentrating on planning are not quite so good as they were when this was just a ‘regular’ Monday!

There is though the excitement and passion of watching wonderful, exciting golf on television as I type, which is a great way to begin this equally exciting journey!
